Totek are a duo from Melbourne, Australia who’s just released their third single, called Oh, Light. It’s an excellent track with dark undertones, and difficult to categorise. Elements of drum & bass fuse with vocals that although definitely soulful veer into rap territory, with an accomplished production twisting and shaping the sound.
“The song encapsulates the feelings of recklessness, joy and frustration we were both feeling when we started working together” states Max Dowling, one half of TOTEK. At a time when both artists were experimenting in search of something new, Oh, Light “shot out of us in a burst of frantic creativity”.
Both members of TOTEK lay claim to extensive musical prowess in their own right. Allysha fronts the internationally-acclaimed nu-soul outfit 30/70 as well as her equally-revered solo career. Max’s CV is no less impressive: a member of No Zu, Client Liaison and a host of production credits.
