Who’s behind Frequency State?

Listening, writing and making

Frequency State is founded and edited by Matthew Greasley, an electronic musician, sound designer and music educator based in South West England. The publication draws on his work in studios, music education and experimental performance, alongside an ongoing interest in independent electronic releases.

Matthew is also involved in Pattern Recognition, organising electronic music events and open-mic performances in the region. That connection to artists and live music informs the site’s approach to listening and coverage.

Frequency State evolved from electronica.org.uk, the site’s original name. The rebrand reflects a broader focus on electronic music journalism, artist discovery and practical music-making. The articles, playlists and guides all belong to the same publication.
