ProProcessed vocals provide the main melodic focus of Yorimichi Mifune’s “Collapsed”, with pitched and clipped fragments turning the voice into part of the instrumentation as well as carrying the vocal line.
Underneath, a warm, slightly rounded bass brings something of an 80s character to the track, moving against tight, glitchy drums. Small syncopated hits and clipped percussive flurries appear between the larger rhythmic elements, leaving plenty of space within the arrangement.
Synth pads add harmonic colour behind the vocal without becoming particularly prominent, while occasional vocal harmonies expand the central melody. The combination of tuned vocal fragments, bass and sparse percussion gives the track a precise, tightly arranged feel.
Mifune describes “Collapsed” as drawing inspiration from Y2K UK Garage, alongside touches of traditional Japanese instrumentation. Those references provide some useful context for a track centred on processed vocals, syncopated rhythms and a relatively minimal electronic arrangement.
