M.F.S: Observatory is primarily the work of Mattia Turchetti, from Napoli, who’s now based in London. They’re prolific, having releases on Green Velvet’s Relief Records, Food Music UK, and ViVa Music. They have their own Observatory Music imprint, which features releases from themselves and carefully selected friends and fellow producers, drawing influences from Radio Slave, Kerri Chandler, Robert Hood, and Steve Lawler.
W is the latest release from M.F.S., an EP in three parts, each with a distinct identity. Here’s W1, with a pounding kick, occasionally shifting, and some wonderfully textured layers of synth and atmospheres…
W2 has a slightly darker edge, the kick being a little boomier, filling the space a little more, but nicely accented with some subtle breaks. A vocal sample lift the track and adds some interest…
It’s all got an old school vibe to it, which I totally appreciate, W3 continues this with it’s drum breaks and subtle vocal samples. It’s moody and atmospheric.
