It Doesn’t Add Up is the latest track from Belgian collective Stavroz, and it arrives with the group’s characteristic blend of acoustic colour and electronic precision. The track opens with repeating tones that set a gentle rhythmic pattern before soft piano textures and bell-like accents widen the atmosphere. As the beat enters, it brings a skippy, downtempo feel that guides the track forward with subtle momentum.
Synth chords provide a slight 80s tint, adding warmth and a touch of nostalgia, while processed vocal elements drift in with a tremolo or gated quality that adds extra movement. The production unfolds gradually, letting small details shape the mood without overwhelming the core groove. It feels spacious, unhurried, and carefully layered, offering a sound that is both rhythmic and cinematic.
Stavroz have long been known for their ability to merge organic instrumentation – piano, guitar, trumpet, clarinet – with electronic frameworks, building tracks that feel alive with texture and atmosphere. Formed by childhood friends IJsbrand De Wilde and Gert Beazar, later joined by Maxim Helincks and Pieter De Meester, the group developed a hybrid style that blurs the lines between live performance and electronic production. Their sets often feel immersive, carried by subtle emotional shifts as much as by rhythm.
Their early releases on labels such as Moodfamily and Laut & Luise drew international attention, and their debut album Mindibu (2022) established them firmly as producers of detailed, narrative-driven electronic music. Their upcoming second album, Take a Seat (out October 17th, 2025 on Moodfamily), continues that arc. Written across continents during their Kick Up The Dust world tour, it captures their experience of travel, landscape, and late nights, shaping field impressions into a tightly focused 14-track collection.
It Doesn’t Add Up fits naturally into that world. It is atmospheric, warm, and quietly transportive, offering listeners a moment to settle into the space between organic and electronic sound.
