“Deep Tar Liberation,” a track from Danish electronic musician Skarv’s upcoming album Polymer Veil, is an experimental journey into synthetic and haunting textures. Opening with digitally-tuned vocal elements, the track establishes a chilling, almost disorienting atmosphere. These haunting sounds start with an improvised edge before settling into a loop, creating an immersive soundscape. As rhythmic elements and a deep bass pulse emerge, the track evolves into an ambient, hypnotic composition that retains a distinct experimental quality.
Set for release on October 25, Polymer Veil explores the boundaries between artificiality and authenticity. Created by Mads Krue Bugge, known as Skarv, the album features contributions from the Copenhagen underground scene, blending synthetic textures with human voices to examine ideas about plasticity and the synthetic aspects of modern life. The album asks probing questions about the nature of authenticity and what it means to be “real” in an increasingly artificial world.
Through collaborations with artists ill, Nemo, LM Madsen, and Alto Aria, as well as AI-generated text from GPT-3, Polymer Veil uses fragmented lyrics and synthetic beats to challenge listeners’ perceptions of human and machine identity. Bugge notes, “I grew up thinking the fake, the plastic, the synthetic were inherently bad – now, I’m questioning if that’s what we all are.”
Released on Rhizome, a Copenhagen-based label co-founded by Bugge and Aria Leth Schütze, Polymer Veil continues Skarv’s journey through ambient, electronica, and post-human soundscapes, establishing itself as a notable addition to the experimental music landscape.
