Shugorei - Meet The Sun (feat. Shêm Allen)

Formed in 2019, Shugorei is a collaboration between classically trained Nozomi Omote, who fuses her classically trained percussion background with Japanese influences, and Thomas Greens’ production skills to create an exciting sonic experience, utilising vibraphone, percussion, digital samples, sound clips and synthesisers.

Their debut, self-titled album was released in March 2021 via 4000 Records, and is now followed up with the single ‘Meet The Sun’, featuring the vocal talents of Brisbane vocalist Shêm Allen. , Shêm has performed with Nonsemble, Skinny Jean and Yr Familiar, and whos distinct, unguarded and unaffected tone adds an expressive depth.

It’s a percussive, rhythmic and polished production. The percussive elements add what sounds like a programmed, yet real performance mixed with exciting string elements. The drums are tribal, yet focussed within an electronic music context. It’s really quite exciting. Check it out…
