“Alpha Bete” delivers cinematic funk and R&B beats mixed in a jazz blender. Imagine a collaboration between Anomalie and Herbie Hancock on planet Motown, with the Metropole Orkest, and overseen by Quincy Jones. This groovy track captivates listeners with lush jazz harmonies, soulful horns, and electronica elements, all brought to life by the Budapest Art Orchestra. Marks is responsible for writing, arranging, producing, beat programming, and performing (piano, Rhodes, synthesizers, and synth bass) on all the tracks of this EP.
The track’s origins trace back to March 2020, during New York City’s first wave of the pandemic. With lockdowns in effect, musicians worldwide began recording and sending stems from their bedroom studios, collaborating virtually. Marks shared neo-soul inspired chord changes he recorded on his piano, hoping a producer friend would turn them into a beat. Despite initial enthusiasm, no one took up the challenge. Determined, Marks decided to create something with the beat himself, resulting in the compelling “Alpha Bete.”
