Moss Velveta’s Electrifying Soundscapes: A Review of “Voltage” and “Empress”

Moss Velveta, the enigmatic electronic music project, presents a captivating sonic experience with their tracks “Voltage” and “Empress.” With a combination of pulsating synths, gritty vocals, atmospheric elements, and distinctive melodies, Moss Velveta’s music creates a world of drama, mystery, and violence.

“Voltage” begins with a pulsating introduction, instantly grabbing the listener’s attention. The synths are intricately woven together, chained to the kick and shifting in and out, creating a pulsating and dynamic shape to the track. The punchy yet laid-back vibe sets the tone, while the clever use of vocal fragments adds depth and texture. The result is a gritty and polished composition that merges intensity with precision.

On the other hand, “Empress” takes a different approach, gradually building from nothingness. A synth tone emerges, reminiscent of an Oberheim-like brass, alternating between a couple of chords. The track develops further with the introduction of a looping beat that establishes a mesmerizing rhythm. As the atmosphere thickens, higher pads and a distinctive melody take the listener on a journey. The track builds again, this time with an overdriven arpeggio, creating a sense of anticipation and leading the listener through a double-time groove to a satisfying conclusion.

Moss Velveta’s debut album, “No Basis,” released on May 19, 2023, showcases their unique blend of industrial and impulsive character with a sensitive and moving spirit. The album, consisting of 10 tracks, reveals the depths of Moss Velveta’s musicality and their ability to create electrifying soundscapes. Preceding the album release, Moss Velveta self-produced two captivating videos, “Dysfunction” and “Burn,” which set the stage for the sonic and visual narrative that Moss Velveta embodies.
