KARLITA Explores Nostalgia and Groove in 'wvkup'

In her latest release, “wvkup,” Karlita takes us on a nostalgic journey through atmospheric pads and rhythmic beats. The track opens with a delicate blend of ethereal sounds, gradually transitioning into a captivating groove driven by kicks and hats. With its playful approach, “wvkup” strikes a perfect balance between atmospheric elements and energetic club music.

Karlita’s eight-track release, “Live In Your World, Play In Mine,” on the renowned French label Monstart, draws inspiration from the catchphrase of the popular PlayStation console. Influenced by digital aesthetics found in video games like Tekken and Gran Turismo, Karlita masterfully weaves together a tapestry of genres, including juke, UKG, footwork, and breaks. The result is a sweetened nostalgia that envelops listeners, accompanied by exquisite compositions that are equally suitable for both dancefloors and introspective moments.

In Karlita’s own words, she expresses the challenges she faced while working on this project: “To transmit my emotions while offering rhythmic tracks calibrated for a dancefloor. Finding the harmony and balance between softness and vulnerability versus the raw and energetic aspect of club music.” It’s evident that she has skillfully navigated this terrain, creating a sonic experience that evokes both tenderness and liveliness.

Since her early days, Karlita has been deeply influenced by the trip-hop, ambient, and lounge compilations her parents would play. The otherworldly atmospheric sounds of synths and pads were a revelation to her, connecting her to a higher realm.
