Yvonne Ambrée returns with a captivating new single, “Elusive,” released on June 13th. This track, lifted from her upcoming album, showcases her continuing evolution in the electronic-pop realm. Ambrée channels her inner Beth Gibbons, crafting a sonic experience reminiscent of 90s trip-hop icons like Sneaker Pimps, Portishead, and Massive Attack.
“Elusive” features looping piano textures, low-key downtempo drums, and delightful vocals that sail over the mix. The inclusion of lovely backing vocals and reversed elements adds a unique touch, creating a compelling trip-hop vibe.
Ambrée describes “Elusive” as a reflection on human interaction and the subtle shifts in relationships. She explains, “Elusive is about human interaction and all the subtleties of being close to someone to being strangers or moving away from each other. Sometimes a loved one gently slips out of sight, and the reasons for a shift in fondness and understanding are hard to grasp. It’s easy to hold on to a memory of a feeling even though both know something is slowly dying.”
Co-produced with Jeremy Page (Czarface, MF Doom, Kendra Morris, That Handsome Devil), Ambrée’s upcoming album promises to be a rich tapestry of drum loops, strings, and lush vocal arrangements. Her voice, ranging from earthy to ethereal, conveys profound insight and emotion, influenced by short stories from writers who inspire her creative process.
Yvonne Ambrée is a professional musician, producer, mixed-media and collage artist, and music video editor. She was the German lead vocalist for Disney’s Encanto and has collaborated with artists like Sleigh Bells, Ann Sexton, and Gwen McCrae. Born in Germany, Ambrée now lives and works between Brooklyn and Berlin.
