When it comes to chip tune music, there’s no denying the intense ride it takes you on. The pure and full-on sounds immerse you in a world of retro gaming nostalgia. In the first track of the album “Xurok Goes 8-bit! Volume 2,” titled “Second Level,” Xurok (Kristian Andjelic) succeeds in transporting us back to the good old days of playing on the classic Nintendo console (NES).
Xurok’s passion for the 8-bit era is evident throughout the track. By exclusively using traditional 8-bit sounds, he brings that unmistakable charm of retro video game music into the modern age. “Second Level” is programmed with skill, showcasing an interesting arrangement that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish. The track’s clever variations prevent it from becoming repetitive, allowing the listener to stay captivated by the nostalgic journey it offers.
Born in 1995 in Norway with roots in Serbia and Montenegro, Xurok has been crafting unique MIDI/synthesized songs since 2009. After years of honing his craft and exploring various music genres, including metal, jazz, boom-bap, and drum and bass, as well as drawing inspiration from video game music, he finally released his first albums, “Electronic Black Metal” and “Xurok Goes 8-bit!” in April 2023.
The influence of his favorite bands, like Melechesh, Soulfly, Symphony X, and 1349, along with classic video games such as Final Fantasy, Zelda, Secret of Mana, and Perfect Dark, is clearly reflected in Xurok’s music. Additionally, his love for the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s shines through as he skillfully blends the old-school vibe with his unique style.
