Michiel Omtzigt, a/k/a/ Spycker, is an experimental/electronic artist from Amsterdam, who’s not afraid to experiment in different genre. In addition to his solo work, Michiel has played in several Amsterdam ensembles, including the eclectic rock band In Advance and the improvisation duo The Renaissance Elbow. In 2019, he joined Von Veh, an alternative indie band currently working on their fourth record.
For his next project, Spycker is releasing a series of experimental scenic-evoking tracks based on patterns created by Quincy, a unique program in which music is created by feeding it with intricate graphic building blocks. Quincy is based on a cellular automaton devised by the British mathematician John Conway.
The result is a fascinating track, with a mechanical pulse alongside a rolling groove, overlaid with electric piano, harp, organ, and atmospheric sounds. Check it out below…
