The Municipality, the brainchild of prolific artist Eric, has unveiled “Raising the Dead,” a standout track from their latest album, Erratic Ecstatic. This track epitomizes the innovative spirit of The Municipality, merging pop sensibilities with a robust electronic foundation. The song begins with stuttery, glitchy textures and gradually layers pad sounds with rhythmically processed vocals, crafting a delicate yet intensifying soundscape that culminates in a full-bodied production. “Raising the Dead” showcases a unique blend of conventional songwriting and avant-garde production techniques that mark a significant evolution in the band’s artistic journey.
Eric’s inspiration for “Raising the Dead” sprang from an experimental accident while using the reverse function in Final Cut Pro, which created a strange, alien, glitchy sound. This sound, characterized by audio chopped into tiny bits at a rapid speed, forms the track’s foundation. The vocal treatment on the track is particularly notable; Eric explores his falsetto range more extensively than in previous works, including segments that mimic the sound of a Belgian boys’ choir—achieved by singing into a laptop mic in his van. This unconventional approach not only highlights his versatility but also enhances the track’s eclectic vibe, blending guitars and synths in a way that blurs the lines between them.
