Palestinian traditional singer Salwa Jaradat, renowned as one of the most authentic voices in the Arab region, presents her powerful single “Inta Mana Walla Mahom,” remixed by her frequent collaborator Etyen. This remix is a masterful blend of shuffling bass and kicks, with vocal elements interspersed, effected, and delayed. The track evolves with a main melodic element, building an atmosphere that leads to alternating chords and shifting through various melodic sections. The structure of the remix shifts and changes, taking listeners on a journey through diverse shapes and textures.
The original track by Jaradat is a poignant critique of the duplicity of so-called allies to the Palestinian cause, calling for global recognition of the 75-year plight of the Palestinian people. With ironic lyricism and a theatrical element, Jaradat delivers a deeply existential and serious message wrapped in a playfulness reminiscent of literary tragicomedy classics. The fundamental question raised is stark: How has this oppression persisted for so long, and where do we each morally stand in the face of ongoing brutality and occupation?
This EP is completed by two additional remixes from Italian electronica producer Bawrut, alongside Etyen’s remix. Following their debut EP “Galah Waji” released in 2022, Jaradat and Etyen continue their collaborative efforts with this project, preparing for a sequel later in the year. Etyen, a Beirut-based composer and producer, brings his diverse musical affinities to the remix, blending Indie, Downtempo, Electronica, and Techno into a unique sound that emphasizes emotion and depth. Together, these artists unite in sonic solidarity, calling for an end to occupation and genocide, and advocating for the freedom of Palestine.
