Sacrobosco’s Ash*s develops with a sense of restraint and gradual momentum. Opening with bell-like tones and looped minimalist textures, the track establishes a floating, weightless feel in its early stages. Patterns repeat and evolve subtly, shaping the atmosphere before the energy begins to shift.
Midway through, the composition transitions into a more rhythmically driven second half. A distorted contrabass performance by Marco Santandrea joins forces with driving drum machine rhythms, pushing the piece into more intense territory. The tonal shift is effective—emphasising contrast and movement while keeping within the track’s defined sonic palette.
The project of Bologna-based producer Giacomo Giunchedi, Sacrobosco merges IDM aesthetics with ambient and experimental elements. With a background in the electrowave band Torakiki and current involvement in techno-ambient duo sea:side, Giunchedi’s work under the Sacrobosco moniker blends analog and digital synthesis with found audio samples sourced from the web. The result is music that balances abstraction with structure, and atmosphere with motion.
Ash*s captures these dualities well, using repetition and evolution as core compositional devices. It’s a piece that feels carefully constructed but still open to spontaneous shifts, particularly through the change in intensity between its two halves.
