Endless Nights opens in a shadowed space, with low atmospheric tones and distant textures slowly coming into focus. Layers build patiently, with higher and lower elements rising together to create a sense of depth and scale. The sound design feels deliberate, allowing drones, synths, and field recordings to settle before gently shifting the mood forward.
As the track develops, harmonic detail becomes clearer. Subtle melodic fragments appear and recede, guiding the piece through a gradual transformation. What begins on the darker edge steadily moves toward something lighter and more resolved, without losing its introspective character. The organ-led crescendo near the latter stages gives the track a clear emotional peak, anchoring the surrounding ambience and drawing the layers together.
Endless Nights is the first single from Spectral Passage, the upcoming album by rhubiqs on the Affin label. The project is the work of London-based musician Tom Squires, whose music sits between ambient electronics and post-rock, drawing influence from artists such as Mogwai, Caspian, Jon Hopkins, Bardo Pond, and Boards of Canada. Since debuting with the self-titled rhubiqs EP in 2019, followed by Motifs in F# Major and the album Migratory Paths, Squires has continued to refine a warm, immersive sound that balances texture and melody.
