Nicolas Snyder – Toll Bell

Nicolas Snyder is a composer, filmmaker, and sound artist based in Los Angeles. Snyder’s compositions combine organic texture, field recordings, digital manipulations and scavenged found sound with cinematic instincts and narrative sweep to create intricate ambient studies that swirl with unpredictable timbral invention.

Using personal spirituality and interactions with nature, his work explores the space between universal constants and transcendental experiences, influenced by nostalgia and longing for lives forgotten or unremembered.

By day, he works in film and corporate sound design, with previous collaborations including working with filmmaker Jonathan Djob Nkondo, Netflix documentaries by Academy Award-winning director Morgan Neville, and Showtime’s documentary on Rick Rubin, ‘Shangri-La’.

His personal projects include the 2020 album ‘Temporary Places’, and ‘Classical Expansions’, an ambient experiment in deconstructing recordings of classical music.

Nicolas has just released an album called Spell of Remembrance, self described as a ‘stream of conscience sonic poem’ , exploring reincarnation and personal divinity, producing a work that is both ambient and cinematic. Toll Bell is the third track from the album, combining percussive and rhythmic fragments that later opens up with melodic woodwind phrases and and a lo-fi guitar flourish to finish. Check it out below…

Spell of Remembrance is available now on digital, vinyl and cassette formats, released through Singapore-based contemporary electronic music label Evening Chants.
