Massimo Silverio’s ‘Jevâ’: A Harmony of Carnic Tradition and Sonic Exploration

In his debut album, ‘Hrudja,’ Italian songwriter Massimo Silverio introduces audiences to a captivating blend of classic, contemporary, folk, experimental, and electronic sounds. The album is a linguistic and musical exploration, as Silverio crafts his narratives in the ancient Carnic language spoken in the Carnic Alps, weaving a tapestry that transcends borders and traditions.

The single ‘Jevâ’ is a testament to Silverio’s ability to harmonize disparate elements into a cohesive and enchanting soundscape. The song unfolds as a rich fusion of folk influence and electronic elements, creating a unique sonic experience. The vocals, sung in the Carnic language, are carefully layered, adding depth and resonance to the musical backdrop.

The accompanying video for ‘Jevâ’ delves into the ancient ritual of La Femenate, a tradition rooted in Celtic culture. The visual representation aligns seamlessly with the song’s message, evoking a sense of intimate loss and departure, reminiscent of leaving one’s hometown. The ritual, captured by director Giulio Squarci, becomes a symbolic reflection of the song’s theme, where sparks rise and burn, akin to a song in the night.

Silverio’s musical journey is deeply rooted in his Carnic heritage, translated into an imaginative world of places, mountains, rivers, and ancient rituals. ‘Hrudja’ emerges as a testament to his ability to convey universal stories through the lens of a minority language, creating an experience that resonates beyond cultural boundaries.

The production of ‘Hrudja’ by Manuel Volpe, with the participation of Nicholas Remondino, further elevates the album. The collaboration brings forth a seamless integration of classical instruments, such as the cello, double bass, and prepared percussion, with folk instruments like the guzla, synthesizers, guitars, and organs. The result is a sonically rich album that carries the weight of tradition while embracing contemporary sonic landscapes.
