“Sillage” aims to situate the listener within the frames of Sergio Leone’s crime epic Once Upon A Time In America, capturing the atmosphere of the film’s opium dens in a hazy musical form. Built around a haunting Rhodes loop, skittering delays, and a sleazy backbeat, the track builds into a saxophone-led cacophony before melting away into a four-to-the-floor two-stepper. The band describes the track as translating scent into music, creating a warm, amber atmosphere that is both captivating and unsettling.
FELLAS, quickly emerging as France’s answer to BADBADNOTGOOD and Yussef Dayes, are set to release their debut EP NDONTI via Root Records on Friday, September 13th. Led by saxophonist Charlie Burg, the Toulouse-based band draws inspiration from the intersection of film, fashion, and music, influenced by Charlie’s French-Italian upbringing and the rich palette of Italian-American cinema. Formed from the vibrant Toulouse jazz and hip-hop scene, FELLAS consists of Robin Safaru (drums), Séraphin Vergniot (bass), Robin Espagnet (guitar), and Léo Colman (keyboards). Their music is inspired by black American music traditions, from Pharoah Sanders and Dexter Gordon to D’Angelo and 50 Cent, creating a unique sound that bridges genres and evokes vivid imagery.
