Exploring Drum & Lace’s “Solstice”

Discover the captivating sounds of Drum & Lace’s latest single, “Solstice,” the first glimpse into their upcoming LP set to release this summer on Fabrique Records.

With a percussive intro and pulsing sounds that gradually coalesce, “Solstice” creates a mesmerizing backdrop for synth lines and melodies to harmonize. As the track progresses, it explores rhythmic contrasts and develops into an engaging exploration of sound. Towards the end, tremolo vocal fragments add further texture, enhancing the overall depth of the composition.

Drum & Lace, the moniker of Italian composer and sound artist Sofia Hultquist, draws inspiration from cinematic elements and interesting sounds. Through a blend of sampled field recordings and lush layers of synths, Drum & Lace creates densely textural and beat-heavy music, influenced by film music, musique concrète, and modern electronica. Her ambient and chamber work is also inspired by nature and the juxtaposition of unlikely sounds.

In addition to her solo work, Drum & Lace’s composition portfolio includes writing for film and TV, fashion, dance, theater, and commercials.
