Ducks!, Rachel Snow & Tim McMillan: Unveiling the Haunting Melodies of ‘Time for Landing’

“Time for Landing” emerges as a haunting yet captivating ghost story, inspired by the eerie atmosphere of a Danish farmhouse where it was recorded. In 2019, two duos of Australian musicians, Ducks! (Lani Bagley and Craig Schuftan) and fingerstyle guitarist Tim McMillan and violinist Rachel Snow, converged in Vejle, Denmark, with a week to spare between festival shows.

Pooling their diverse musical talents, they embarked on a series of living room jams, capturing the essence of the farmhouse’s haunting ambiance. Ducks! subsequently molded these sounds into “Strange Endeavour,” an EP that mirrors the cozy yet ghostly aura of its recording location.

The lead track, “Time for Landing,” delves into the conflicted emotions of a new ghost reluctant to fade into oblivion while simultaneously wishing for her loved one to move on. The frosty narrative finds balance in the woody warmth of pizzicato violin, accompanied by percussive propulsion and synths that provide an ethereal lift.

Ducks! – Lani Bagley and Craig Schuftan – are known for their electronic music crafted in their Tiny Lights studio, blending percolating synths, dreamy vocal harmonies, and found sounds from ancient cassette players. Their live performances are a riotous spectacle of indie dance and vibrant plumage, reflecting their desire to create the ultimate party atmosphere.

Having released acclaimed albums such as “Ding Ding Ding” and “Nak Nak,” Ducks! continue to push boundaries with their latest record, “Things That Were Lost,” showcasing their unique blend of musique concrete madness and disco science. Their collaboration with Canadian producer Christa Belle earned them a nomination for a 2019 listen to berlin award, further solidifying their status as innovators in the electronic music scene.
