Craig Scott’s Lobotomy – I Am Revolting

Craig Scott's Lobotomy

This is very creative, in a crazy kind of way. It’s the first single from I Am Revolting, the second album release from Craig Scott’s Lobotomy, an experimental musician from the UK. It’s a mix of live recordings of acoustic instruments and field recordings, transformed and arranged using handmade microphones and recording equipment.

The result is a little disturbing, some of it is very jazzy, with dissonant harmonies conjuring up dark, foreboding emotions. Surrounding this is percussion, arranged and treated in a way that reminds me of the music concrete produced by Stockhausen in the 1960’s. It’s a little more coherent this time though, formed in loops and structures that push and pull the track forwards, in a three steps forwards, two steps back kind of way.

The video is interesting, with it’s nightmare / fairytale aesthetic, moving so slowly that you wonder if it’s a still image, until we catch a glimpse of movement, or a glitch…
