Cosmo Sheldrake – Bathed In Sound

Cosmo Sheldrake is a man with many strings to his bow. Known as a field recordist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and improvisationalist. Stroud based Sheldrake collects and experiments with musical instruments of all kinds, incorporating natural sounds into his music.

He has a background and family that is very much linked to the natural world, he is the son of the biologist Rupert Sheldrake and the brother of mycologist Merlin Sheldrake (Entangled Life). He’s very much worked the natural world into his latest composition Bathed In Sound, a song “about trying to imagine myself as a whale floating in the ocean, immersed in a liquid medium full of sound, surrounded by plankton and the immense wild wetness of the ocean.”

It’s released as part of a project by Brian Eno, ‘The earth as your co-writer’, in which 50% of the publishing income goes to environmental and conservation organisations. It’s a worthy cause, and a wonderful piece of music, combining a playful song with an interesting backdrop built from whale sounds…
