Lines of Silence, the kosmische/krautrock-inspired band from Todmorden, West Yorkshire, unveils their latest track, “The Long Way Home (Amaury Cambuzat’s La Route des Choux Edit).” Opening with a nostalgic 80s vibe, the track gradually evolves into a dynamic, driving beat and groove, with synth lines weaving through the soundscape, creating a captivating and ever-evolving musical journey.
2024 marks a transformative year for Lines of Silence, not only in their musical output but also in their lineup. Originally a side project for David Little, the band has evolved into a collective of like-minded musicians known for their improvised live sets and ever-changing lineup. This year’s incarnation sees the band centered around the core duo of David Little and Manchester’s Dave Clarkson, with live visuals provided by John Bonner and Adrian Ball.
Dave Clarkson, the newest member, brings an extensive and illustrious history in electronic and experimental music. Clarkson, also a member of Scissorgun and a solo artist, has collaborated with notable names such as Ruth Davies, Vini Reilly, and Graham Massey. His recent work includes the ‘Pocket Guide’ series of field recordings and the ‘Dreamadelica – Music for Dreamachines’ album. Clarkson’s addition to Lines of Silence, combined with their collaboration with krautrock legends FaUSt’s Amaury Cambuzat, has propelled the band into new creative realms.
“The Long Way Home” is the first single from their forthcoming third album. The single features a remix/edit version by Amaury Cambuzat, who added a driving motorik beat, percussion, additional synths, and Ebowed guitar to the original drumless mix. This collaboration has infused the track with a fresh, energized, and contemporary feel, drawing influences from classic Krautrock bands like Neu!, Harmonia, and Can. The single also includes the original edit of “The Long Way Home” and a new track titled “Black Box Theme.”
David Little reflects on the inspiration behind the title track, stating, “Sometimes it takes a long time to get home, literally or figuratively. ‘The Long Way Home’ is a celebration of the twists and turns of that journey, the wrong turns and false starts as well as the joy in reaching the destination.” This latest release by Lines of Silence promises to be a captivating addition to their evolving musical journey, blending nostalgic influences with contemporary innovation.
