James Young delivers a strong entry into the UK garage world with Nagasaki, the title track from his debut EP on QRUK. Built around chopped breaks and a driving kick, the track quickly establishes a dark, energetic tone. Blipping synths and vocal samples—processed with a dub-inspired touch—add texture and atmosphere, giving the production a nostalgic flavour while staying club-focused.
There’s a nod to classic 90s production throughout, particularly in the vocal treatments that evoke comparisons with early Leftfield. But the track isn’t stuck in the past—it’s sharp, rhythmically dense, and engineered for today’s dancefloors.
Nagasaki marks a shift for the North Wales-based producer, previously known for house cuts on labels like Smashin Trax and Pogo House. This new release leans into heavier, moodier territory, aligning with the deeper edge of UKG and Speed Garage.
Also featured is a remix by Manchester’s Kabo Cana, who reshapes the track into a 90s-inspired club roller. With added sub pressure and tight percussion, it maintains the energy of the original while highlighting a different set of influences.
