Ted Taforo’s latest single, “Soulmate,” exudes classic soul-funk vibes from the very first note. The track opens with the smooth sounds of electric piano and bass, immediately setting the scene for a soulful and groovy experience. As the saxophone joins the sound, the groove takes on a gentle and pensive melody, creating a captivating and laid-back atmosphere. With its great arrangement and well-crafted flourishes, “Soulmate” delivers a delightful downtempo vibe that captures the essence of soulful love.
Released through Revolver Records, “Soulmate” marks Ted Taforo’s debut with the label and serves as the title track for his upcoming album. Inspired by a visit to the Korean restaurant ‘Sun Nong Dan’ in Los Angeles with his partner Baolu, Taforo was moved to write the initial loop that forms the heart of the track. The loop became a captivating musical obsession, playing for hours on end in his house, and eventually evolved into “Soulmate” and several other compositions dedicated to Baolu.
More than just a romantic funk love letter, “Soulmate” also serves as a meditation on the importance of self-love. The album, with its title track, stands as a celebration of Ted Taforo’s new life after embracing sobriety. Through his music, he expresses the joy and transcendent emotions that accompany newfound love and self-discovery, making “Soulmate” a must-listen Jazz bop that perfectly captures the essence of summer.
Ted Taforo, an immensely talented musician based in Los Angeles, is a two-time recipient of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award. His saxophone prowess, versatility, and unique compositions have earned him recognition and opportunities to collaborate with a diverse range of artists.
