Pulseblink is an electronica project from Tim Brookes, whose music encompasses indie guitar-pop, EDM, industrial electronica, modern classical pieces, film and video soundtracks, and experimental electroacoustic music. With such a wide range of experience it’s no surprise that quality is at the forefront here. It’s lovely track, reminiscent of 90’s electronica such as Massive Attack or Morcheeba…
The Gift was written during a year of isolation, illness and sleep deprivation, drawing on partly suppressed memories of painful personal experience, brought to the surface by Dominic Savage’s powerful drama I Am Nicola. A delicately glitchy piano motif, pulsing electronics and the silky vocals of Kildare-based singer Carrie Haskins chart the doomed course of a coercive relationship and its devastating effects.
The Gift appears on Pulseblink’s second EP, Retreat, released on 19-Nov-2021. On the EP, the Pulseblink staples of carefully crafted electronic soundscapes, intricate musical arrangements and featured singers from around the world, combine with lyrics tackling suicidal grief, crippling social anxiety and psychosis, as well as acceptance, the dizzy exuberance of first love and the awe of the universe.
