Plants Heal – Avena Moon: Organic Rhythms and Evolving Soundscapes

Avena Moon opens with a blend of vocal textures and atmospheric layers that slowly give way to gentle, lofi-style beats. Abstract synths and shifting rhythms weave together, creating a piece that grows gradually in energy and depth. The track feels both organic and exploratory, with moments of intensity emerging through evolving layers of percussion and tone.

The piece is taken from Forest Dwellers, the new album by Plants Heal, a collaborative project featuring Dan Nicholls on synths, Dave De Rose on drums, and Lou Zon (aka Louise Boer) on visuals. The trio draw inspiration from free improvisation, rave, and ancient mysticism, creating music that is both instinctive and fluid.

Recorded over two days at Sonic Playground Studios in Athens, Forest Dwellers captures an entirely improvised process, allowing rhythm and texture to unfold naturally. The album sits at the intersection of dub techno, kosmische sound, and ambient electronica, with subtle traces of trip hop and trance woven throughout.

Visually, Lou Zon’s analogue video work adds another layer to the project, focusing on medicinal plants such as yarrow, hawthorn, nettle and thistle. These elements appear on the album artwork and are central to the group’s ongoing live performances, reinforcing their link between nature, sound, and ritual.

With Avena Moon, Plants Heal explore the boundary between structure and freedom, creating an atmospheric work that feels both hypnotic and deeply rooted in the physical experience of live improvisation.
