Samedi stands out as a defining track from composer, producer, and visual artist Damian Boylan’s debut album, Rarefactions. The track captures the shifting moods of a well-spent weekend, moving from introspective beginnings to a dynamic and driving finale. A Roland TB-303 bass sequence injects momentum, weaving with melodic stabs from a Roland SH-101, referencing motifs from the album’s opening track, Undulations. As the track builds, elements of granular synthesis and outboard effects add depth and unpredictability, drawing inspiration from electronic artists such as Jon Hopkins, Aphex Twin, Four Tet, and Rival Consoles.
Airy choral vocals and orchestral strings elevate Samedi to its climactic peak, blending electronic textures with organic instrumentation. This emotional arc is reinforced by a music video, also produced and directed by Boylan, exploring themes of time and human experience.
Mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios (known for work with Bonobo, Four Tet, Thom Yorke, and Caribou), Samedi is available now via London-based label Arrow of Time. Boylan’s career spans co-production with Grammy-winning producers, over 2 million streams with his Melodic House & Techno project Parvenu, and extensive global touring. With Rarefactions, he introduces a solo vision that blends neoclassical, ambient downtempo, and experimental electronic influences, complemented by an extensive visual art component.
