Rattling, slowly phasing percussion moves around the stereo field at the beginning of Nathan Fake’s “Caldera”, before a propulsive kick emerges and gives the track a more defined sense of momentum.
Pads gradually rise behind the rhythm, bringing an almost Twin Peaks-like quality to the harmony. Delicate percussive accents continue to appear around the kick, while a low bass begins to rumble underneath and adds further weight.
New synth layers arrive steadily as the track develops, with percussion, pads and low-end sounds continually changing their relationship to one another. The kick remains a consistent driving presence while smaller rhythmic and textural changes keep the arrangement moving.
“Caldera” is one of four tracks from Nathan Fake’s forthcoming Caldera EP, due 23 October 2026. Fake links the material to his live performances and a move towards a darker, more physical sound, providing some useful context for the track’s combination of driving rhythm, brittle percussion and gradually accumulating synth textures.
