KATIA HARLOWX – VOID Review: Layered Vocals and Classical Harmony

Stacked vocal layers sit at the heart of Katia Harlowx’s “VOID”, with the opening harmonies carrying something of a Beach Boys Pet Sounds tone in their movement. The delivery is more controlled and classically influenced, giving the voices a clear, choir-like quality.

Percussive hits, bass and smaller melodic lines gradually appear beneath the vocals, adding weight without immediately changing the character of the track. Rather than relying on sudden shifts, the arrangement develops through additional layers and increasing density.

The stacked voices remain clearly defined as the arrangement fills out, with individual lines moving through the wider harmony. Percussion and bass provide a restrained rhythmic foundation while leaving the vocals as the main focus.

Harlowx brings a background in classical music to “VOID”, a concise piece centred on vocal arrangement, close harmonies and gradually accumulating instrumentation. Its relatively short runtime keeps the focus firmly on the layered voices and the changing textures around them.
