In the wake of the pandemic’s upheaval, the trio of Kris, Vlad, and Dave found themselves separated by distance, yet united by the virtual threads of camaraderie. As they weathered the storm individually in different cities, they yearned for the shared moments of togetherness reminiscent of their days in Brighton. However, it wasn’t until 2022, when the world began to regain a semblance of normalcy, that the opportunity arose for them to reunite and create anew.
Three days were booked at Manchester’s Dead Basic studio, masterminded by Lewis, a childhood friend of Dave’s. The intention was simple: to relish each other’s company and recapture the magic that once flowed freely between them. Amid laughter, drinks, and a haze of smoke, a couple of remarkable songs emerged. The studio itself, with its distinct ambiance, lent its name to this collaborative release, and each of the three tracks is titled after the studio’s address, line by line.
One such track, “Wellington House,” comes alive through the musical entity known as Solbore. The track opens with a percussive pulse that sets the tone, followed by the gentle loops of a kalimba, imbuing an organic touch. Processed string elements enter the soundscape, creating a delicate dance with the acoustic textures. As the electronics step forward, swift delays add to the sonic palette. A driving drum loop kicks in, propelling the track with an infectious rhythm. Gradually, vocals join the sonic tapestry, accompanied by layers of percussion and melodic fragments. The result is an immersive and intense composition that keeps the listener engaged throughout.
These raw files, captured during those vibrant studio days, remained dormant on a hard drive for eight months until they found their way to Josh Trinnaman (Lou). With his production and mixing prowess, Trinnaman breathed new life into the recordings, shaping them into their final form. This transformation marks the genesis of a series of collaborative releases, setting the tone for what’s to come.
In “Wellington House,” Solbore showcases the power of artistic collaboration and the magic that emerges when friends come together to create. The track’s journey from distant connections to physical studio sessions, and finally to the expert hands of Trinnaman, highlights the resilience of creativity and the profound impact of shared experiences. As this release becomes the first chapter in a promising series, Solbore’s music reflects not only sonic innovation but also the enduring bonds of friendship that drive its creation.
