Here’s the latest released from Bricolage, the excellent underground electronic music label from Glasgow. We’ve featured Bricolage releases previously, see Dark Fidelity Hi-FI, Steve Hadfield, or Ty Lumnus for more. This time we’re taking a look at a new release from Jonblund, a 6-track release called Blindspot, which merges together downtempo electronica and glitch aesthetics with live studio drums and string instruments.
It begins with My Calendar Is Two Years Out Of Date, a slow burner, with an acoustic bass laying down some tones, other rhythmic and melodic ideas slowly introduced, building to a rhythm that staggers forwards, rather than propelled, although once it gets underway it’s a lovely sound.
Collapsed Stars gets underway with some synth arpeggios, soon complemented by a drum track thats adds a different pulse to what you’d expect to hear, creating an interesting texture using a combination of acoustic synthetic sounds…
Where The Sun Swallows The Moon brings us some delayed synths accompanied by shuffling drums and triplet percussion to create a flowing melodic texture with some interesting rhythmic undertones…
There’s another couple of tracks to explore, which I’ll leave you to discover, but i will leave with the Fragile X remix of Collapsed Stars, adding a new dimension to the track whilst retaining the character and mood of Jonblunds productions…
