Talk It Up, the first single from VAAGUE’s upcoming EP SHORTCUT, opens with a sharp rhythmic focus that immediately draws attention to its footwork-inspired pulse. The beat feels light on the surface yet driven by an undercurrent of urgency, shaped by tightly programmed percussion and a growling bass that cuts through the mix. Synth chords appear at key moments, offering brief flashes of brightness before the groove pulls the listener back into its fast, looping energy.
The track blends elements of footwork, post-dubstep, and UK garage, creating a hybrid rhythm that feels both global and deeply personal. Its percussive character comes from VAAGUE’s unique workflow, which merges acoustic drumming with computer sequencing. Using samples from his own drum kit, he builds patterns that feel human and digital at the same time, keeping the groove unpredictable yet grounded.
There is a clear narrative in the track’s evolution. Behind VAAGUE is Antoine Pierre, a Brussels-based drummer, producer, and long-established figure in Belgium’s jazz and indie scenes. Under this alias, he has moved into a world where acoustic technique meets electronic experimentation, developing a performance approach that combines drumming, gesture control, and real-time sampling. His previous EPs and the full-length Oktopus Mekaniks marked his emergence into the club world, with energetic sets and collaborations across Europe.
Talk It Up continues that journey. It is rhythm-forward, inventive, and built with both the dancefloor and live performance in mind.
