Son Lux bring their distinctive approach to experimental composition to Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, the title track from their soundtrack for Bassam Tariq’s film starring Mahershala Ali. The trio of Ryan Lott, Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang combine electronic production, percussion and layered voices in a piece that moves between unease and emotional intensity.
A percussive opening introduces sharp, high-register notes and trembling, tremolo-like tones, immediately setting an unsettling mood. The arrangement develops with a carefully orchestrated accumulation of sounds, each new layer adding depth and a distinctly cinematic sense of scale. Haunting vocal textures emerge within the mix, initially adding atmosphere before becoming an increasingly prominent part of the composition.
As the rhythmic elements gather momentum, the voices build into overlapping phrases and unexpected harmonies. Their gradual expansion gives the track a striking contrast between its darker electronic textures and its soulful, human quality. The result is both haunting and dynamic, with intricate production and a strong sense of dramatic movement.
Released on 25 September 2026, the soundtrack is available digitally through This Is Meru, with a vinyl edition from Waxwork Records.
