Optometry, a music duo hailing from Los Angeles, consists of John Tejada and March Adstrum. Tejada, a renowned electronic artist, handles the production duties, while Adstrum takes charge of vocals and guitars. Together, they explore themes of life, love, and loss, crafting seductively melancholic textures using synths, drum machines, guitars, and bass. Adstrum’s ethereal voice and expressive guitar work breathe life into the electronic elements, imbuing them with heartfelt emotion. Tejada’s use of vintage rhythm boxes, synths, and effects adds an authentic touch to the music. Fans can look forward to Optometry’s debut album, “After-Image,” set to be released on March 3, 2023.

John Tejada, a Vienna-born musician based in Los Angeles, boasts an impressive career as an electronic music composer, DJ, and professor at CalArts. Since 1994, Tejada has been actively producing music, with a discography that includes five albums released on the revered label Kompakt. His works can also be found on labels such as Pokerflat, Cocoon, Plug Research, Seventh City, Playhouse, Defected, and his own label, Palette Recordings, which he established in 1996. Tejada’s talents extend to remixing, having reimagined over 100 songs for renowned acts such as Orbital, The Postal Service, Télépopmusik, Plaid, and Simian Mobile Disco, to name just a few.

March Adstrum, on the other hand, was raised in a musical environment, influenced by the orchestral works of Baroque composers such as J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and George Friedrich Handel. Growing up, she accompanied her parents, both Baroque violinists, backstage at various music venues. Raised in a fishing village within the Pacific Northwest’s temperate rainforest, Adstrum developed a deep appreciation for human connection, nature, and kindness. Her musical journey led her to Los Angeles, where she studied at the California Institute of the Arts. There, she discovered a passion for punk music, electronics, indie rock, and the DIY community. In 2021, Adstrum released her first official record, an EP titled “Vines, Veins, Cables.”

The collaboration between Optometry, with their heartfelt lyrics and captivating instrumentation, and Plaid, with their masterful synthesis and melody, creates a powerful musical experience.
