Finnish composer and producer Marko Nyberg, best known as the founder of the ambient pop ensemble Husky Rescue, has premiered his latest short film, “MASS,” on YouTube. The film is part of a larger music and visual arts project that includes his debut solo album, Solveig. “MASS” blends analog tape vibes, synth arpeggios, and engaging rhythms with abstract visuals and a live performance feel, showcasing Nyberg’s innovative multidisciplinary approach.
“MASS” features dancer and choreographer Sofia Ruija, a graduate of the Finnish National Opera & Ballet, and was filmed at the historic gunpowder magazine on Suomenlinna, an island fortress off the coast of Helsinki. The short film captures the transformative power of the location, merging past and present in a celebration of new beginnings. “We invited people to this brick-built barrel vault, built in the 1770s, to witness our very first live performance together,” Nyberg explains.
Nyberg’s debut solo album, Solveig, released in April 2024, distills private moments into pure emotion across nine instrumental tracks that span cinematic ambient, neoclassical, and electronica genres. The project also includes individual moving portraits for each album track, created in collaboration with artist Mari Mäntynen. These portraits are available on YouTube and aim to juxtapose the album’s post-apocalyptic ambiance with human presence, blurring the line between reality and the dystopian fairy tale of the album.
