Gaspar Claus – Ecstazy: Pizzicato Strings and Electronic Rhythms

Gaspar Claus transforms pizzicato cello, layered delays and rhythmic textures into a cinematic blend of contemporary classical music and electronica on Ecstazy.

French cellist Gaspar Claus explores the space between contemporary classical music and electronica on Ecstazy, taken from his album CELLS, released through InFiné. Although its textures often suggest synthesizers and programmed percussion, the track’s sounds originate from the cello, transformed through electronic processing with the involvement of producer Basile3.

The opening is built around plucked, pizzicato strings, with delays extending the notes into a shifting rhythmic pattern. Further layers of cello gradually enter, adding movement and harmonic depth to the arrangement. Processed sounds sit alongside the more recognisable string timbres, blurring the distinction between acoustic performance and electronic production.

As deeper rhythmic elements emerge, the music develops a more driving quality without losing the intricacy of its string writing. Repeating figures and changing harmonies give the piece a strong sense of forward motion, while the accumulation of textures lends it a cinematic scale. The result combines the physical character of the cello with a distinctly electronic sensibility, balancing rhythmic energy with detailed, imaginative orchestration.

CELLS was released on 25 September 2026 via InFiné.
