Zurich-based electronic artist Hugo Trist offers two captivating tracks that highlight his evolving sound and talent for blending melancholic atmospheres with energetic beats. Dreams Of You and Shelter, both released on Mouthwatering Records, reflect Trist’s distinct approach to future garage and synthwave-inspired electronica.
Opening with pulsing string pads and delicate melodic motifs, Dreams Of You introduces a dreamy soundscape where processed vocal elements and layered harmonies add depth. The track builds gradually, leading to a downtempo groove that carries it forward with a slow, driving energy. Synth accents and carefully crafted breaks enhance the emotional core of the composition, inviting the listener into a reflective yet dynamic listening experience.
With a more up-tempo and vibrant tone, Shelter pairs choral vocal chops with synth string pads, setting an atmospheric backdrop. Percussion adds momentum before a driving bassline anchors the track, complemented by fragments of melody and vocal samples. Combining fat basslines, 2-step beats, and intricate vocal chops, Shelter is a standout future garage track. Its dynamic structure and uplifting energy create a sense of refuge, resonating with themes of hope amidst darker moments.
Hugo Trist’s sound is characterized by a seamless fusion of ambient textures, syncopated rhythms, and emotive melodies. Drawing inspiration from artists like Bonobo, Moderat, Burial, and Four Tet, he brings a fresh perspective to the future garage and synthwave genres. Using analog synthesizers and looping techniques, his music bridges the tactile, personal feel of early electronic music with the precision of modern production.
Released through Mouthwatering Records, Trist’s work demonstrates a talent for balancing nostalgia with contemporary energy, crafting tracks that are introspective yet vibrant. Dreams Of You and Shelter showcase his ability to convey depth and movement, offering listeners both emotional resonance and engaging grooves.
