Gates of Light is an internationally diverse project, featuring the combined talents of singer-songwriter Louise Quinn and producer/musician Finlay MacDonald from Glasgow, producer/DJ Scott Fraser from London, producer/DJ Kid Loco from Paris, and film/art director Tim Saccenti from New York. The project’s inception was made possible by the support of Creative Scotland’s Open Fund, and it serves as a reflection of lockdown experiences through a psychedelic, dream-pop glitch landscape.
Louise Quinn, known for her involvement in musical endeavors like A Band Called Quinn and DAWNINGS, possesses a voice that has earned praise even from Madonna. Finlay MacDonald, previously associated with Lenzie Moss and Music and Movement, has been part of bands like BMX Bandits and Teenage Fanclub.
Scott Fraser’s versatile musical journey includes releases and remixes on labels like Rush Hour, One Little Indian, and Bird Scarer, as well as his association with the late Andy Weatherall. Kid Loco, also known as Jean-Yves Prieur, is a French electronic music innovator who has collaborated with artists like Jarvis Cocker, The Transistors, and Mogwai.
Louise’s collaboration with Kid Loco extends to her contributions on his records, and Kid Loco reciprocates by producing albums and remixes for Louise and Bal. Tim Saccenti, a director and photographer based in New York City, is renowned for his visually groundbreaking work with a diverse range of artists.
