Brussels-based composer and producer Antoine Flipo shares Noir, a central piece from his forthcoming debut solo album. Known for his work in the electro-jazz duo Glass Museum, Flipo’s solo output shifts focus toward the intersection of neoclassical piano and experimental electronic textures.
Noir begins with intimate, classically influenced piano phrases—delicate in tone and pacing—gradually layered with spacious reverbs and subtle delays. As the track evolves, electronic arpeggios rise within the mix, gradually taking a more dominant role. This shift builds into a fuller groove as drums emerge, pushing the track into a dynamic electronic flow.
The composition explores contrast: the controlled softness of the piano against a more volatile electronic backdrop. Flipo constructs the piece with clear attention to sonic pacing, allowing each element to emerge and dissolve naturally within the structure.
Described by Flipo as a “cornerstone” of the album, Noir represents the ongoing dialogue in his work between acoustic delicacy and electronic unpredictability. His production technique centres on manipulating piano recordings—processed, looped, and layered—creating a hybrid form that blends composition with improvisation.
With his debut album due later in 2024, Noir sets the tone for a body of work situated between minimalist electronic, modern classical, and ambient-influenced experimentation. It’s a clear step forward in Flipo’s musical exploration, offering a cohesive yet evolving sonic identity.
