Massive Cranes’ Debut Single: A Unique Blend of Sound and Emotion

The first official release by Massive Cranes, titled “Monsters,” introduces us to the collaboration between multiplatinum selling producer O.S.T.R. and lyricist Dan Thurlow. This single is a captivating journey that combines a distinctive sound with both cynical and autobiographical storytelling.

“Monsters” kicks off with an intriguing ascending synth, leading into a kick-heavy vibe that immediately captures the listener’s attention. The vocals, with a reverb-laden touch, carry a narrative that is reflective and engaging, drawing the audience into the storytelling.

The story behind Massive Cranes is as unique as their sound. O.S.T.R. (Adam Ostrowski) and Dan Thurlow have a history of making music together, dating back to the noughties. However, their collaboration took a different turn in 2021 when Dan faced a challenging battle with cancer, following O.S.T.R.’s own experience with the disease a few years earlier. To cope with their situations, they found solace in making music together. Dan would write lyrics to O.S.T.R.’s beats during his hospital stays. As a result, “Monsters” emerged as a fully formed single, showcasing deep synth and drum-led music with raw and honest lyricism.

During the recording process, the addition of Helen Fisher brought a delicate and beautiful touch to the single. Her singing voice, writing, and piano skills contributed to the creation of a unique blend of alternative melancholy, adding further emotion to the production.
