Dis Fig’s The Snake You Built begins with an uneasy atmospheric soundscape. Low, string-like tones establish a dark mood as further layers gather around them. Sliding notes introduce an element of dissonance, and the music grows slowly without giving away where it is heading.

As the textures deepen, a percussive element begins to emerge. Slow, deliberate drums bring an almost funereal weight to the arrangement, while layers of restrained, emotive vocals gradually rise through the sound. The voices feel embedded in the surrounding atmosphere, adding a human presence to its shifting, shadowy textures.

The final section changes the scale of the piece dramatically. The accumulated layers tear into a dense wall of distortion, pushing the earlier restraint towards something raw and overpowering. It is a powerful contrast, and the intensity of the ending gains much of its impact from the measured way the track develops.

Moving between ambient sound design, slow rhythms and abrasive noise, The Snake You Built is a dark and affecting track that makes its gradual escalation count.

Released on 22 September 2026 via Thrill Jockey.
