A Collaboration with the Ligeti Quartet

As an exciting video collaboration, I’m working with the Ligeti Quartet on their performance of Sofia Gubaidulina’s String Quartet No. 4. The String Quartet itself is composed for live string quartet, two pre-recorded quartet tracks and lighting. The aim of the project is for the video to be a “performance” of the lighting part, every bit as impressive as theatre lights but within the limits of a single digital projector.

Ligeti are dedicated to promoting 20th and 21st century music of both established and emerging composers. The quartet is comprised of graduates from the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Oxford University.

The performance will be at the Jacqueline Du Pré Music Building, Oxford on Friday 20th April. The programme is as follows:

PHILIP GLASS – String Quartet No. 2, Company (1984)
ELENA FIRSOVA – String Quartet No. 8, The Stone Guest (1995)
GYORGY LIGETI – String Quartet No. 1, Métamorphoses nocturnes (1952-4)

Interval

SOFIA GUBAIDULINA- String Quartet No. 4 (1993)
ANTON WEBERN – Six Bagatelles for String Quartet Op. 9 (1913)
NICOLA LEFANU- Quartet No. 2 (1996)
JOHN ADAMS – Fellow Traveler (2007)

Feather Hammer Premiere & Preview Videos

Feather Hammer is an audio visual project with composer and producer Leah Kardos, which has been in development over the last year. Feather Hammer combines tonal and ambient soundscapes which fuse contemporary classical and electronica styles, and is being released through bigo & twigetti

My role within this is creating visuals using experimental textures and surreal imagery that are manipulated through improvised live performances.

The finished work is to be showcased on 25th November 2011 at the Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell, alongside performances by Sam Grinsell and the Ligeti Quartet. This event is promoted by Chaos Theory.

Below are three demo videos created during the planning stages of the project.
